Whether you might have seen young people and adults side by side washing cars in the summer heat, witnessed the gathering of cereal and juice boxes all year long, or observed efforts at an annual chili supper during the winter, the First Congregational Church UCC and the Sanford Center have a unique and long-standing partnership.
This partnership has demonstrated that a congregation and community-based program working with youth from varied backgrounds can build a relationship that is positive and successful.
This partnership, which is year-round, supports the after school and lunch programs. Members of First Congregational fill grocery carts at the church with food for the programs all year long. They sign up to join the young people from the Sanford Center to wash cars during the summer, which raises money for many of the needs of the Sanford Center.
We just held a most successful chili supper fundraiser at the Center in March. The chili chef was Executive Director George Boykin with assistance from Sanford Center staff. Over $1500.00 was raised for the Center's after schoolprogram.
