Packaging and marking toys and games
Quality - First, anything that could possibly contain lead, WE WILL NOT ACCEPT. YOU need to check manufacturer's recall list. You will sign a statement to this effect at checkin. Please use diligence.
Nothing stresses us more during the sale than the toys. Shopper's children will play with them! Tags fall off! They have to be stacked on the tables...nonetheless; they do sell, and sell quite well.
As you prepare your toys, think clean, sparkling, sanitary, like-new, with secure, yet minimal packaging, and secure tag. Also, think quality. That's what this sale is about, not just getting rid of "stuff". I often use the guide that it a 3-year old can open it, or tear off the tag, they will. I can guarantee you the bored, curious 7 year old will! No tag, no pay. Incomplete toy, no sale.
Pricing
General rule - 20-25% original price. Cleanliness will greatly affect the value.
Check EBay...we might do silent auction for items selling for $50 -$75 and more, or maybe some brand new items. Little Tykes, etc, will sell well, depending on quality. You can price 40-50% of retail if great quality.
Bikes...used, price $5-$15. Schwin, excellent quality, etc...25% of new. If tags still on...go about 60% of original, or what you paid for it. Scrub as clean as you can.
Packaging:
*If batteries are needed, they must be included (cheap batteries will last through the sale!)
*Wooden puzzles need to be wrapped with Saran-type wrap and then taped with clear packing tape. Tape jigsaw puzzle boxes shut.
*Games need to be complete. Boxes taped shut, with all the pieces inside.
*Legos, Rescue Heroes, etc. really sell much better in individual plastic bags that are worth $3-$10, rather than the whole collection for $40.
*Toys with lots of pieces - Fisher Price sets, etc. Use a Ziploc for ALL the loose pieces. Put a tag on the big toy, and a tag on each bag. Indicate 1 of 2, 2 of 2, etc...so the checkout knows how to charge. TAPE THE BAGS SHUT...AND TAPE TOGETHER. Write the price on only 1 tag, not each tag in the set.
*Great idea for large toys - race car sets, etc. Set the toy up at your house. Take a picture of it, and then put the toy in a box you can totally tape shut, and attach the picture on the outside with packing tape.
*Expensive toys (Micro machines, Battleship, big doll house, etc.) we will try to put on top of the wooden racks so kids cannot get into them. Please bag the pieces and mark as above.
*Barbie bags sold fairly well (but low price).
Please don't bag toys that don't need to be bagged. Baby dolls, toddler toys, etc.
Put a piece of packing tape all the way across the Ziploc and fold it down to securely seal it.
