Tips and changes

Tips from previous sellers, and changes from past sales
This list is not complete, but a good place to start your preparation.

Tell youself over and over, THIS IS NOT A RUMMAGE SALE.  Don't treat your things like they're rummage.  Take time, run through the dryer, maybe even bring a little less, but better quality.  You will be $$$ ahead!  Gospel Mission truck will be here on Sunday checkin for your donations that aren't Closet quality.

Allow yourself time - some of the more successful sellers tell me they think of this as a job...and it pays pretty well, when you think of it.  Be particular, sort your items, and you'll see a bit more $$$ in your check!
Attaching tags
1. Safety pins 1" or bigger for all clothes - size 2 preferred.
2. Yarn or string - secured tightly (shoes, some toys)
3. Plastic packing tape across the top of the tag only.

Remember how we calculate what to pay you - we add up the bottoms of the tags. If we can't get the bottom off, how can we pay you?  If the tag has come off your item, we have no idea who to pay...Think ahead and be proactive in this.  YOU benefit.

Dancewear comes in FLAT.  Pajamas and nightgowns come in FLAT.  Fleece needs to look NEW - not pilled, please.  Please, please, please read through the directions for hanging and marking.  There are often small changes.  You might have hung them wrong last spring and we just didn't catch it!

Teen and adult sizes that upper elementary and middlers will wear - IF THEY ARE ADULTS OR JUNIOR SIZE, PLEASE INDICATE THAT ON THE TAGS.

On more expensive 2 and 3 piece clothing outfits - we strongly suggest you make a full tag for each item.  Write 1 of 3, 2 of 3...etc...and put a good description on all the tags.  Only put a price on one of the tags, to help the cashiers out.  Lots of work, but on those expensive outfits, it's well worth the time.
Please use the word "NEW" only if original tags are still on the garment.  You can write "never worn"...but NEW = tags.  This will help at checkout.

Books- see pulldown menu for specifics. You do not mark them.
Fall sale will be the last sale we will accept videos or cassettes.  Both will be 2/$1.

TOYS!!! - oh how I wish there was an easy answer!
  • First, if a 3-year old can open the box or the bags, trust me, they will.  And they seem to open all of them at once!
  • Do NOT just lay the little balls for the game on top and put a piece of tape over the top.  I can guarantee you they'll get separated - and then we end up selling the game for $1 - and find the balls a day later!!!
  • Dollar Tree is good source for zipper-top bags and batteries.
  • Tape - quality clear mailing tape will save you lots of headaches.  NO Scotch or masking tape.  It does not stay on.
  • Again, tag EACH bag, and please put description on the bags.  Price on only one of the bags.
  • Bigger sets, like race tracks, Barbie house, etc. - set up at home, take a picture.  Put all the pieces in a box, seal it shut and put picture on top!  Works great - no reason to open.  Cheaper than plastic tubs.
  • There is no way we're going to keep children from playing with the toys - it just won't happen.  For your sake, tag, bag and mark your items clearly.  I can try to match "FP golf set - 5 pcs"...I can't do anything with the tag that says #20...$2
